Longest Night Service at Lompoc First United Methodist Church
Wednesday, December 21 at 7:00 pm in the Sanctuary
On this longest night of the year, anyone in the Central Coast area is invited to a simple time of Worship on Wednesday, December 21 at 7 pm in the Sanctuary
of the First United Methodist Church of Lompoc.
Whether we are grieving a loss, struggling economically, overwhelmed with personal and family situations, it is good to remember that the first Christmas was also difficult and that the light of Christ “shines in the darkness.” Perhaps we may feel very alone in the midst of all the Christmas celebrations. At this service, prayers will be shared for the division in our nation, for the violence in our world, and also praying for peace. First United Methodist Church is located at 925 North F Street, at the corner of N. F Street and E. North Avenue. For more information, please call 805/ 736-1271 or visit our website, lompocumc.org. Childcare for young children will be available during the Longest Night Service.
The name of this service comes from the season – December 21st is actually the longest night of the year, with the most hours of darkness at the Winter Solstice. But the name, “Longest Night”, also describes the feelings that a number of us have during this season. In the long, dark winter nights, memories of past experiences and the pain of present loss and situations can become overwhelming. For some, Christmas Day is the most difficult. For others, it is Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve or the beginning of another year. Join with us to hear scripture, offer prayers for healing and wholeness and sing music that acknowledges that God’s presence is for those who mourn, for those who grieve, for those who struggle, and that God’s Word comes to shine light into our darkness.
Everyone is welcome.
